This chapter investigates the English and French subtitled and dubbed versions of the South African film Tsotsi (2005). It examines the salient features of the translations in the English subtitled version, created for the UK DVD released by Momentum Pictures, and the French subtitled and dubbed versions of the French DVD released by MK2. This case study will offer an analysis of selected extracts, taking account of the complex network of signs that constitutes the audiovisual text, and how this impacts on the resulting translations.
