Abstract

Rye Lane film screening and panel discussion. A film screening of film Rye Lane (2023) and panel discussion for Race, Gender, and the Media module at Syracuse University, London campus. Dr Charmaine Brown will be responding to themes around Black Love and gentrification as depicted in the film Rye Lane. Discussions on the impact of gentrification and displacement in Peckham is centres on her extensive research from documented case studies applied to previous disseminations: BBC radio 4 podcast Thinking Allowed, 'Gentrification Revisted' (2022); CB15 article 'Lloydie's, the real Desmond's' (CB15, 2021); Peckham Heritage Society presentation (Youtube, 2022); Institute of Historic Building Conservation keynote lecture 'Heritage and Gentrification' (IHBC, 2023) and Potraits of Peckham lecture/walking tour/exhibition (UAL CCW FAD project, 2023).
