Abstract

Motion In Form II was an Artist's Moving Image research project which included symposiums, workshops, and and an exhibition curated and organized by Jim Hobbs (University of Greenwich), Louise Colbourne (University of Brighton), Jayne Parker (University College London/Slade School of Fine Art), and Melanie Counsell (University College London/Slade School of Fine Art). Utilizing the Slade’s Research Centre as a physical space, the week took aim at the sculptural associations of film as form, and the role and presence of the artist within the contexts of film as performance. Motion in Form II expored the ‘activity’ of working with film, sound and projected light to define the space as an immersive and experiential site of transformation. Artists and speakers included Jim Hobbs, Jayne Parker, Melanie Counsell, Jenny Baines, Zoe Brown, Bea Haut, Oliver Bancroft, Guy Sherwin, Benedict Drew, David Leister, Mark Webber, Jane Madsen, and Lucy Reynolds. Workshops were also designed for students from The Slade School of Fine Art and University of Greenwich to explore the physical aspects of film, and the subsequent sculptural and projected outcomes.
