This research reports on a further investigation into the original data collected by the 2002/03 Learning and Skills Development Agency (LSDA)/London and South East (LSE) Learning and Skills Research Network (LSRN) regional research study, A rich contract? The ragged-trousered philanthropy of part-time staff in the learning and skills sector (Hillier and Jameson 2004; Jameson, Hillier and Betts 2004). The original 2002/03 LSDA research project investigated part-time staff deployment and development in the learning and skills sector, finding that around two-thirds of teachers in further and adult education work part-time, yet part-timers often feel underpaid, undervalued and under-supported, with inadequate access to facilities and little job security (Hillier and Jameson 2004). Aware that there might be deeper issues lying undiscovered in the data on part-time staff, the team now reports on the results of the secondary analysis regarding issues emerging from the data
