Abstract

The AHRC-funded p_ART_icipate! project explored design and facilitation of participatory arts in an online context. The project led to insights into the interplay between digital technology, interface design, and user experience design, with findings highlighting the need to focus on accessibility as key factor in supporting social connectedness among participants.
With this second phase of the project - p_ART_icipate Now! - we will disseminate our insights among community groups supporting those with access needs, young people, the visually impaired and mental health workers. Our aim is to provide new resources for creative collaboration and participatory online art and a series of impact activations and public engagement activities.
Led by the School of Design, Greenwich, a global leader in inclusive design, CNWL NHS Foundation Trust, and Brunel University, and supported by partners RNIB, Analema Group, Joy of Sound - the objective is to maximise impact by:
- Sharing research outputs across a roadshow of four impact activations: The ‘p_ART_icipate! Labs at Somerset House, Southbank, Wellcome Collection and Brunel will focus on our four groups of beneficiaries
- Disseminating our interactive toolkit at a launch event at Greenwich University, the US, and Houses of Parliament
- Targeted training sessions for trainers, educators, artists, designers and creatives
- An animated documentary that will capture our process, findings and insights
- Green paper launch event and workshop with policymakers
Post-covid the future of art is hybrid - online and offline. p_ART_icipate Now! will help to share insights into the design and facilitation of participatory art online with the public.
