Abstract

Contact is a unique configuration of eight artists, which is structured equally across two exhibitions. These artists work in distinct and interrelated mediums and forms that explore material, temporal and spatial relations working with still and moving images, analogue and digital practices, human and machine processes. Their distinct approaches and applications produce different, but related, medium engagement, viewing regimes and cross-disciplinary discourse. They are in contact with materials, forms, context, one another, and are part of an ongoing conversation that generates new connections and ideas. The entire Contact exhibition series was curated by Simon Payne and Andrew Vallance including artists: Carali McCall, Cathy Rogers, Jenny Baines, Sophie Clements, Saviner Baul, Jim Hobbs, Simon Payne and Andrew Vallance. Jim Hobbs and Andrew Vallance delivered a public artist talk about their work and concepts of Contact on 1 February, 2025. A review of the exhibition was written by Nicky Hamlyn and published in Millenium Film Journal, New York, NY, USA. Issue 82, Fall 2025.
