Abstract

Teaching in higher education requires a delicate balance between catering to the specific needs of a diverse student body and adhering to national and international policies to ensure high-quality learning and equal opportunities. It entails flexible teaching approaches and continuous engagement in understanding the ever-changing contexts of practice. Professional learning is essential for teachers to develop their expertise, respond to these challenges and innovate their practices creatively. An integral part of this expertise is the development of personal practical knowing, which is here considered as a form of artistry. It encompasses pedagogical content knowing (PCKs), an integrated understanding of pedagogy, subject matter, student characteristics, learning environments, personal and professional values reflections, and autonomous engagement with practices. This chapter highlights practitioner research as a holistic approach to professional learning, allowing teachers to weave artistry’s intricacies col
