Abstract
The hospitality industry plays a significant role in promoting social understanding and inclusion. This article reflects on the dual contribution of the hospitality industry in offering economic opportunities as well as cultural platforms for the celebration of diversity. Numerous examples of food and arts festivals are provided. From a critical perspective, however, the article also notes that challenges remain with regards to under-representation at senior levels of the industry, alongside the potential pitfalls of cultural dilution and stereotyping.
