Abstract
This paper explores the gap between a theoretical and practical enggagement with research in the curriculum development module on the FE ITE programmes in the UK. It concludes that the current structure does not help trainees to develop the required skills for engaging with curriculum research and advocates a change in orientation of teachers, trainees and the structure of the programmes.
