Abstract

O Cutty Sark, explores the poem, ‘Tam O Shanter’ by Robert Burns. It is from this poem that The Cutty Sark gets its’ name. Cutty Sark is the name of the dress worn by Nannie in the poem.  Spoken word excerpts from the poem were recorded and spoken by Louise Mackenzie. The excerpts weave amongst a mythical soundscape which reflects the characters and places in the poem.
This composition also explores hybrid immersive audio spatialisation techniques such as ambisonics and channel based audio (ring of 12 loudspeakers) to create both scenes and localised sounds.

This piece was composed for the concert Voyages, Part of Sound/Image Loudspeaker Orchestra Series, 25th June 2025
Venue: Cutty Sark, King William Walk, London SE10 9HT
In Partnership with Cutty Sark, Royal Museums Greenwich.
