Abstract
This roundtable brings together a group of academics from a range of disciplines and at different points in their careers, to reflect upon the theme of the conference through the lens of gender-based violence (GBV). We examine feminist rage and reckonings as well as the ongoing failure of state and carceral systems to produce a remedy to GBV. This roundtable will develop discussions in LEX - an international and interdisciplinary research network into law, gender and sexuality. Reflecting upon the public and feminist rage following the cases of Sarah Everard, Bibaa Henry and Nicole Smallman, these discussions have explored feminist concerns regarding the failure of the State and criminal justice system to adequately respond to gender-based violence. The roundtable will examine the limits of carceral responses, the reasons feminists continue to engage with them, and consider the possibilities of alternative and more socially just responses.
