Abstract
This chapter outlines three emerging key themes across the book, which are important in the study of health and social care across the OECD. Firstly, all OECD countries are subject to increasingly important global developments which influence approaches to health and social care, for example, ageing populations, health and social inequalities, the need to diversify and expand the workforce, and wider structural configurations of globalisation and inter-dependence. Second, whilst there is a trend and convergence towards increasing expenditure upon health and social care, this is accompanied by a dual convergence towards, for example, marketisation, and diversity in provision of health and social care. Third, health and social care research, policy, and practice, needs adjustment to increasing complexity and change, especially in an era of increasing competition for resources, and the evidence across the book.
