Abstract

This paper charts the shifting discourses of mental health in prisons from Foucault to trauma-informed practice, using the narratives of creative writing practitioners in prisons to tease out the nuance of these shifting positions. The paper concludes by arguing that creative practitioners have long recognised creativity as a salve for trauma, in particular their own.
