Abstract
This conference paper sets out initial findings from the author's PhD study looking at the significance of creative practitioners in their work with people in prisons. The paper examines the narratives of 19 creative writing practitioners working in prisons and finds they construct a sense of outsider status for themselves, which has implications for the people the work with inside the prison.
