Abstract

This paper is published as a contribution to the debate around the Environment Bill in October 2021 in relation to the widespread problem of sewage flooding in households and raw sewage pollution of rivers and coastal waters. It focuses on and updates data on the English private water and sewerage companies, in particular the scale of dividends paid. This paper reinforces the urgent need to radically change the system of privatised water and sewerage. Three general points should be made.
