Abstract

This Report provides a rich picture of higher education students’ diverse experiences of sex and relationships education. The survey results chime with Brook's own experience working in schools and universities around the country. Even among the most educated of young people, knowledge and understanding of these important subjects is inconsistent. Despite high levels of knowledge reported in some topic areas by some students, overall only 27% of students agree that school RSE prepared them for sex and relationships at university. Data from the report helpfully highlights the unmet education needs of young people with disabilities and those from LGBT+ communities. This should encourage schools to ensure that their curriculum is not minimally Equality Act compliant, but truly inclusive of, and relevant to, everyone within the school.
