Abstract
The article looks at how the English courts calculate the parties' beneficial shares when events post-acquisition give rise to a claim to an enlarged share in the jointly owned family home. Apart from examining joint ownership cases, a comparison is made with single ownership, property which is purchased as an investment and cases where improvements to the property are made post-acquisition. The article summarises a number of points for the legal practitioner.
