Abstract
A research project with the aim to understand emotional experiences of sport spectators was carried out. The literature review and the research design phase revealed some of the challenges inherent in the study of emotions which necessitated a need to find an effective alternative to data collection. The repertory grid was identified as a tool that helps understand people’s experiences in a holistic and detailed way. The tool provides a structured approach to both data collection and analysis while helping to generate rich information on topics that can prove difficult to articulate. Use of the tool requires significant time commitment and the need to test the procedure multiple times until it is fit for purpose of the particular research.
