Abstract

A compound of formula ():wherein z is a single bond or an optionally substituted linking group; R1 is a halo-alkyl group; and A is an optionally substituted aromatic heterocyclic or carbocyclic ring system; or a salt thereof. Preferred compounds include those where z is a single bond; A is selected from 2,3-dichlorophenyl, 2,3,5-trichlorophenyl, 3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl, 3,4,5-trichlorothienyl and diphenylmethyl; R1 is selected from CH2CC13, CF2CF3, CH2CHC12and CH2CBr3. The compounds are useful as sodium channel blockers and as antimalarials.
