This film documents Song in the City's pioneering, ground-breaking project in collaboration with the The Maudsley Charity, a mental health organisation, focusing on young composers who create new songs to texts chosen by (or written by) mental-health service users from South East London.
The film documents singers and pianists interacting in the creative process by collaborating with the composers and mental health service users to help them create new songs for performances in a series of concerts. This project involved coaching from esteemed tutors (Sarah Walker CBE, Raymond Yiu, Gavin Roberts) and involved workshop activities to encourage interaction between groups of people who normally would not interact with one another. By participants stepping outside their usual comfort zones, we tapped into the high creative potential of all parties concerned.
