Abstract
The use of an open-source designed, customised for this specific purpose provided to be effective in providing the same experience to students in all engineering disciplines. The component costs were minimised to an acceptable level, marking was achieved within a 48 hour period, lecturer costs were minimised and all students were successful. Feedback from the students indicated that it had been an enjoyable process and there was no evidence that their varied background had any negative impact on the outcomes of the experiment.
