Abstract

In the United Kingdom, 500,000 people exercise weekly using the Concept II rowing ergometer. It has been reported that, to minimize the risk of injury, a rower’s technique should provide optimal posture and correct trunk stabilization for the transfer of the forces generated during the drive phase (Boland and Hosea, 1991: Clinical Sports Medicine, 10, 245± 256). The aim of this study was to examine joint synchronization during the drive phase in competitive and recreational Concept II rowers to determine whether there are any differences in the sequence of the kinematic chain.
