Abstract

In recent years the Philippine coconut industry has been seriously afflicted by declining real prices for its main product, coconut oil. This has been caused by increased competition from palm oil, the near collapse of the United States market following adverse publicity, and the general overstocking of oilseeds in key western markets. Moreover, domestic supply has stagnated due to a low return on investment and ageing plant stock.
