Abstract

This book sets out to explore the impact of the economic reforms, introduced by Deng Xiao Ping, on land use, land values, property markets and construction activity in China. It examines the impact of China's 'open door' policy on a very important economic sector, from the inception of the policy in the late 1970's until Deng's death in 1997. The new Chinese leadership has confirmed its commitment to economic reform and this will continue the transformation of land use, land values, property markets and construction activity in the most populous country in the world. Its ongoing success is important for the global economy. This book analyses some aspects of the changes in land, property and construction to date.
