Abstract

This chapter discusses the 'Film and pedagogy project'. A key aim of the Film & Pedagogy project was to focus on how representations of the teaching and learning process, created and sustained through dramatic productions in popular film, contribute to the discourse and understanding of education and schooling. Allied to this aim, was the exploration with initial teacher training students of the ways in which pedagogy is represented through film and television and how notions of pedagogy can be discussed, challenged and reflected upon in ways which contribute to the preparation for becoming a teacher. In this chapter we describe the project which took place as cross curricular activities over an academic year with one cohort of both primary and secondary Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).
