Abstract

This chapter aims to revisit the notion of ‘the right to resistance’ in Costas Douzinas’ work to conceptualise the possibility of this right in relation to contemporary challenges and limitations on protests. The chapter focuses on Douzinas’ writings on the right to resistance following the 2010-3 protests and offers its analysis in three layers. First, it aims to understand the conditions of resistance in reference to the concept of anomie in Douzinas’ work, then it presents a discussion on the philosophical grounds of the right to resistance and, finally, the chapter reflects on the resisting subject while tracing the figure of Antigone in Douzinas’ writings. By offering a retrospective on Douzinas’ work on the right to resistance, this chapter aims to initiate a debate among the critical scholarship on the right to resistance.
