Abstract

The concept of well-being is key to Indigenous struggles and demands. This work introduces us to the perspective of young Awajún people about well-being. Their perspectives show us that despite growing up in a very different context from that of their parents —many have had access to secondary education and are in greater contact with urban spaces and technology— many elements of the Awajún concept of Tajimat Pujut (a concept of community and well-being) guide their concerns and aspirations. Indigenous youth are not usually at the center of public policy, and we believe that this work allows us to share the reflections and frustrations of a group of Young Awajún people who, through interviews, conversations, focus groups, and artistic activities, taught us about the importance of social relationships, caring for nature, raising children with Awajún values, and the relevance of their ancestors' knowledge in shaping their future.
