Abstract

This session will present the findings from a workshop hosted jointly by the CIEEM Academia Special Interest Group and RSK Biocensus earlier this year during which around 60 ecologists and environmental professionals were asked to share their personal experience of how lack of evidence had affected their professional practice. This was followed by a session during which participants reflected on shared challenges, exchanged professional insights, and collaboratively generated ideas for improving evidence-based practice within ecological consultancy. This research, which was prompted by questions regarding the evidence underlying standard guidance used by ecological practitioners and concerns that this may not reflect the most recent research. The results demonstrated significant concern regarding several issues and this presentation will provide the background for Workshop 5 How to address the evidence gaps affecting work in ecology and environmental management during which participants will be invited to contribute their views.
