Abstract

A semi-improvised music performance with Breathing Space vocal collective, Ian Thompson (cello) and Richard Wilson RA, as part of the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Fête 2015. Performed on the main staircase in Sir James Pennethorne’s building to an audience of 200, HERD was developed from smaller performances by the artists in response to film and poetry, and from “Search & Reflect” improvisation workshops convened by Ian Thompson. It has led to further performances, including live soundtracks to films as part of the Haptic Narratives and Sound/Image conferences at the University of Greenwich, 2015.
