Micro-generation has the potential of reducing CO2 emissions from the power sector. This study investigates the emissions performances of some cases of domestic microgeneration during operation. By comparison to the conventional generation options, savings of 10–45% were found, depending on the energy mix. Waste heat recovery by the micro-CHP was found to be the largest carbon saver in this study, along with the zero-carbon wind and photovoltaic micro-generation. Some carbon savings were also attained by avoiding energy losses throughout the transmission and distribution system.
