Abstract

Based on the author's PhD research, this paper examines the connections between creative writing practitioners' autobiographical narratives and their relationships with the people they work with in prisons. Using David Gadd's work on relationships of recognition (2006), the paper argues that practitioners and prisoners may have more in common than is normally assumed, and that this mutual recognition would benefit from further research.
