Abstract
The invited research seminar, involving staff and students of several universities in Italy under the auspices of CUSVE (University Centre for Victorian Studies) at the University of Chieti-Pescara, dealt with the materiality of reading practices and what this can tell us. The case study was Ouida's short tale *A Dog of Flanders*
