Abstract

A study was conducted to determine the pressure drop gradient in a straight horizontal pipe for dense phase conveying of calcium hydroxide that has become essential for designing such systems for industrial applications. The determination of the pressure drop ratio revealed that it is independent of local conveying air velocity in the pipe. An empirical model for predicting the pressure drop gradient in horizontal pneumatic conveying pipelines was also developed based on conveying data. It was found that the pressure drop gradient in straight horizontal pipelines was independent of the local conveying air velocity for calcium hydroxide. The study was conducted using a bottom-discharge blow tank pneumatic conveyor for calcium hydroxide. A wide range of test conditions, including conveying air velocity and mass flow rate of solids were also performed, to determine the dense-phase conveying characteristics of the material.
