    Abstract

Interest in web applications and their use for content creation, management and sharing has increased, with a number of Universities utilising applications such as Facebook and Second Life to promote student engagement. Industrial organisations such as IBM are also including
the use of wikis and blogs with their existing collaborative tools to foster communication and knowledge sharing. Recent research by Minocha and Thomas (2007) at the Open University (OU) has indicated that the use of wikis as part of a distance degree course on requirements
elicitation improved student engagement and learning of course concepts.
In this paper, we describe a complimentary study to the one undertaken at the OU, which investigated the effectiveness of a wiki as a collaborative learning tool on a Post Graduate module at Keele University via the use of reflective diaries.
