Abstract

The purpose of this chapter is to provide an overview of the design and development of residential construction projects. The level of information provided is very broad in order to provide the reader with a basic understanding of the main processes involved. In relation to a range of residential properties, the chapter aims to examine:
The groups involved in design and development.
The design process.
The construction process.
Maintenance policy and practice.
Building rehabilitation.
Building failures.

Practical examples and case studies are used to help explain the above concepts.
