Abstract
This study explores the impact of Emotional Intelligence (EI) on managerial effectiveness at a Botswana financial institution. Utilising a case study research design and a phenomenological approach, the study garnered in-depth insights through semi-structured interviews with twenty supervisors and managers selected using purposive sampling. The sample size was determined based on data saturation principles, with the expectation that twenty participants would provide sufficient depth to explore the research objectives. Data were analysed using thematic analysis, following Braun and Clarke’s (2006) six-phase framework. Results showed that while EI is recognized as important, formal training is limited. High EI correlates with better conflict resolution, employee engagement, and resilience. The study recommends integrating targeted EI training into leadership development to enhance organizational performance. Findings from the study offer practical insights for policymakers and Human Resource practitioners to leverage EI for growth in Botswana’s financial sector.
