Abstract

Rodents are identified as a major postharvest pest, impacting at each stage after harvest when crops are dried and stored as well as throughout food-processing facilities (decortication, milling, baking). Losses caused by rodents to cereal grains have disproportionately high impacts within smallholder farming communities across low- and median-income countries(LMICs) where chronic percentage postharvest losses can range from 5% to 25%. However, postharvest rodent impacts in high-income countries (HICs) are also apparent, often in terms of quality loss.
