Abstract

This report summarises updated West Midlands air quality modelling results for annual average concentrations of NO2, PM2.5, PM10 and O3 for the calendar year 2024. The approach is consistent with that previously published for the 2019 year through the WM-Air project (Zhong et al., 2024). The modelling was undertaken using ADMS-Urban, a physics-based urban dispersion model developed by Cambridge Environmental Research Consultants (CERC). ADMS-Urban is based on a quasi-Gaussian plume approach and combines meteorology, emissions, background concentrations and atmospheric chemistry to simulate both short- and long-term concentrations. It can represent explicit point, road and diffuse sources, account for building
density, street canyons and urban canopy effects, and produce street-scale concentration maps suitable for policy appraisal and exposure assessment (Hood et al., 2021, Zhong et al., 2026).
