Abstract

This is my major publication to date, and is the first general survey of the whole twentieth century Modern architecture in Britain of any kind. The intention was not simply to describe architects and their buildings, but to construct an analytical narrative about the wider field of architecture, politics and social thought. The text and illustrations combine familiar examples with others that are published for the first time. Each chapter introduces a theme to characterise the broader concerns of a period. The final chapter covers Wales, Scotland and Northern Island in greater detail than most general histories
