Abstract

The article discusses potential problems involving security of tenure in discontinuous leases and short-term lettings. It reviews the scope for granting tenancies of very short duration, case law on whether such brief terms would be classed as contractual licences instead of leasehold estates, and relevant rules on security of tenure. It also examines the nature of discontinuous leases, and whether these are protected by Part 2 of the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954.
