Abstract

EDITORIAL
The author reflects on the paradoxical decline in serum high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c) concentration using simvastatin and atorvastatin. He discusses the role of cholesterol ester transfer protein on the esterification of free cholesterol and activation by apolipoprotein (apo) A1, and the relevance of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) to dyslipidaemia and insulin resistance. He adds that statins are one of the most commonly prescribed cardiovascular drugs.
