Abstract

This paper discusses the antecedents of organizational network formation, with particular emphasis on the cultural industry. In spite of the increasing relevance of networks in this industry and the external pressure on cultural actors toward networking, little is known about the determinants of the formation of relationships in cultural networks. After an introduction to the cultural industry and its specificity, the paper highlights the tendency of this sector toward aggregation. A set of propositions concerning the determinants of ties formation among museums is developed and then tested with respect to two museum network in Lombardy (Italy).
