Abstract

This study aims to explore digital divide among South Korean older adults aged 60+, with specific reference to smartphone usage, types of functions used, and community-based ICT training courses. It uses face-to-face, researcher-assisted questionnaire survey for 372 people at seven community centres in Seoul Metropolitan area in 2018. Findings show that the number of older male smartphone users is significantly lower than other cohorts among older adults. In addition, only a limited range of functions such as calling and checking the time was used and ICT training courses are critical to gain full access to potential benefits of smartphones.
