Abstract

This paper draws on research, scholarship and lived experience over 15 years. It first summarises approaches to Research Quality Assessment [RQA] in several countries before moving to a critical history of the UK Research Assessment Exercise, and, within that, a perspective from Education as a discipline and field for research.
