Abstract

This 90 minute lecture was both a dissemination and review of my research into, using and for the Diagram and in which I analysed the changing design, status, media, aesthetics and other social, economic, political, cultural and impacts of the digital and posthuman diagram-as-interface.

It focussed lastly on the diagram-as-process, as design method, in design methodology and as workflow design. It was discussed with reference to case studies from my own and teaching-based case studies, specifically in relation to my forthcoming book '21st Century Histories, Theories and Futures of Architecture: The RIBA Dissertations' (published by RIBA Publications), 'Spaceships And Astroarchitectures' (Thames & Hudson) - related to my PhD and forthcoming publications: ‘Digital & Posthuman Spaces AD’ (Wiley) and 'Diagrams of Space/Spaces of Diagrams' (Wiley). It focussed on the finding/discoveries around emerging Posthuman Diagrams in art and design research and in the international space design field and related industries and arts. It speculated originally and significantly on the futures of posthuman diagrams in art and design research and in relation to new Posthuman technologies and the typology of the Spaceship and Astroarchitectures specifically. The lecture was specifically aimed at MPhil, PhD and post-doctoral researchers in the School of Design at the RCA specifically but open to all RCA researchers. It was followed by 3 hours review/workshop/seminar of existing MPhil/PhD research in the School of Design.
