Abstract

The evolutionary-aided design process in robotics is a method to find solutions to design and optimisation problems. Evolutionary Algorithms (EAs) are applied to search for optimal solutions from a solutions space that evolve over several generations. EAs have found applications in multiple areas of robotics. This paper surveys the efforts reported in their use for determining body plan through evolution and body morphology and controller of robots or similar creatures through coevolution. The works are covered from the perspective of different algorithms applied with a brief explanation and how they are implemented.
