Abstract

This is a review of Childism: Confronting prejudice against children by Elisabeth Young-Bruehl 2012, Yale University Press.

The key aim of this book is to introduce and make a case for the concept of 'childism'[...]. In the broadest sense, childism is a 'legitimation of an adult's or a society's failure to prioritise or make paramount the needs of children over those of adults and the needs of the future adults over the needs of the present adults. It is role reversal at the level of a principle' (Young-Bruehl, 2012:280).
