Abstract

Sound is a powerful medium, which sometimes overtly and often subliminally affects the way we see and interpret the visual. It is vital to understand its power when making any film. Guinness Is Good explores this by lightheartedly manipulating the sound used in a film made from repeated identical visual sequences. Using as a basis a cut of a couple of the Guinness adverts, the soundtrack subverts the original adverts and tell a different story from the one that the makers want us to believe. In this way the film shows how sound changes the way we interpret images.
