Abstract

The Wolfson Centre for Bulk Solids Handling Technology provide an insight into sensing electrostatic charges for pharmaceutical particulates.

Electric charge is often generated when two electrically isolated surfaces (like or unlike) are brought into contact and separated, which may result in serious problems in particulate materials handling. Electrostatic charging can be found in powders that have similar or dissimilar chemical
composition, with a common characteristic being that they consist of differing particle sizes. The charge generated in powder handling, whether unipolar or bipolar, is undesirable and can potentially cause handling problems unless the charge mechanism is deliberately designed
for certain applications.
