Abstract

In this seminar some key major questions/issues which confront Second Language Acquisition research today will be presented and discussed. Even though a significant gap exists between research on Second Language Acquisition and teacher expectations, there is enough of second language research in existence that is useful for general teacher edification. Like any other field of inquiry, research in Second Language Acquisition is driven by a number of major issues or questions (e.g. What does development look like?, What are the roles of explicit and implicit learning in Second Language Acquisition?, Does instruction make a difference?). This Open Lecture will reflect on some of the existing theoretical paradigms and current research findings in Second Language Acquisition in order to draw some theoretical and pedagogical implications for second language teaching.
